One step closer to becoming a #trademark domain :DomainGang : One step closer to becoming a #trademark domain

The trademark registration of YOU.COM was applied for in December 2020, and it’s about to complete in the next 30 days.

The applicant of the mark is SuSea, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Palo Alto, California. The mark was applied for with an “intent to use” clause and for the following services:

  • Downloadable computer search engine software.
  • Providing search engines for the Internet; software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for reviewing, analyzing and sorting information in databases; providing a website featuring artificial intelligence technology that enables users to identify, summarize and review text, documents, images, audio, and video found in information systems.

Meanwhile, the domain presents itself as “a trusted search engine that summarizes the web for you.”

The domain was registered in 1998 and there are no sales recorded at NameBio. That being said, it appears that changed hands in 2017.

Why was YOU.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.

Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
