John McAfee, founder of the McAfee antivirus maker, has passed away. The 75 year old software developer who created and sold several successful ventures, apparently took his own life while in a Spanish prison.
Fearing the upcoming extradition to the US to face tax evasion charges, John McAfee took matters in his own hands.
Often typo-ed and mispronounced, McAfee is a company long disconnected from its founder, who sold it in the early 90’s. It operates from McAfee.com.
Surprisingly, the domain name JohnMcAfee.com is not related to the late founder of McAfee, but it’s in the possession of a State Farm insurance agent from Redwood City, California by the same name.
Without doubt, in the days of John MacAfee’s fame, the domain JohnMcAfee.com commanded a steady amount of traffic; now, following his demise, that type-in traffic is probably considerably higher.
