CentralNic continues acquisition spree, including a top level domain.
CentralNic announced two tiny acquisitions today.
First, the company announced it is acquiring the .ruhr top level domain name, which has been run by Regiodot GmbH & Co. KG. Ruhr is a region in Germany consisting of many smaller cities and a total population of about 500,000.
.Ruhr peaked at about 14,000 names and now has roughly 10,000. It’s been stable at that number for several years.
The company also acquired Fireball Search GmbH. Fireball was the leading search engine in Germany in the late 90s. Lycos Europe then acquired it, and its popularity waned as Google grew. It was relaunched in 2016 and primarily displays Bing results.
CentralNic paid just €0.6 million for the two assets. It says the combined historical revenue for the two acquisitions is €0.2 million.
