Web3 and gaming are two of the hottest digital industries at the moment. While thousands of companies are starting to focus time and resources on figuring out Web3, gaming has been on the rise for years.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, a hot market, and funding availability, gaming startups saw record funding levels in 2021, with Forbes reporting $38.5 billion in game-related investments for 2021. That’s compared with $13.2 billion for 2020.

Combine web3 and gaming; statistics suggest you’re on for a winner. Stacked certainly hopes so.

Founded in 2021, Stacked is creating a video streaming platform for gaming-related content. It could be thought of as Twitch for the web3 community, available via both mobile and desktop.

Like many web3 platforms, Stacked will allow its users to earn tokens handed out to content creators based on certain performance metrics.

While the platform won’t be released until late 2022 or early 2023, the idea has attracted sizable early funding to the tune of $13 million from several investors, including Goat.com founder Eddy Lu and Scale.com founder Alexandr Wang.

Before announcing its Series A funding round, Stacked secured its exact-match .com, Stacked.com, a domain that certainly stands out on the company’s Crunchbase profile.

The premium domain was previously owned by Stacked Restaurants, a casual dining brand that operated a handful of locations across California. It used Stacked.com as the focal point of its brand online, but it subtly transitioned from the .com domain to Stacked.restaurant in early 2022.

Combining this information with Whois and Archive.org data, it looks like Stacked.com changed hands in February 2022, with Archive.org documenting the current version of Stacked.com’s website from March 2022 onwards.

Data also suggests that this was an upgrade from the company’s original domain, Stacked.gg. The .gg extension, reappropriated from the ccTLD of Guernsey, is popular in the gaming community.

As a brand with ambitions to bring Stacked to an audience that is not crypto-savvy, operating on an inviting, relatable, and trustworthy .com domain name suits its long-term vision.
